The Maya Peoples of the world

How many are there? There are about 16 million Maya, including 10 million in Guatemala. The rest live mainly in the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula (Cancun) and the State of Chiapas, and in the countries of Belize, Honduras and Nicaragua.

What language do they speak? The 26 Mayan tribes all speak Mayan dialects [like Yucatec Maya, K’iche’, Kaqchikel, Mam, Tzeltal, still spoken today]; many also speak Spanish.
