There are other important things to keep in mind when planning a vacation to this paradise in the Caribbean.
CommutingFirst, buses cost around 6.50 Mexican pesos (don't use dollar coins in paying). If you are commuting from one place to another, it is always helpful to know where you are going. Buses speed up on the roads, so if you do not tell the driver where you're going, you might find yourself walking back to where you are supposed to get down. The point is, tell the driver early your destination and pay early, too. For taxis, getting them is not much of a problem especially when you're staying in a hotel. Rates vary depending on the zone but it is recommended that you talk with the driver to set the fare before getting in.
SafetySecond tip is for your security. Although Cancun is the safest place in Mexico with majority of its yearly budget allotted for more police trainings and exercises, it is always a good idea to be responsible and make sure there won't be any reason for any untoward incident. Lock your car and hotel or apartment. Bring your valuables with you or keep them somewhere not easily spotted.
Money ExchangeIt won't be a problem if you don't exchange your dollars because restaurants, hotels, parks, shopping malls and all the other establishments accept dollars. However, if you want to save some, exchange your dollars first. Best places for exchange are in your hotel, in Casa de Cambio or in any near bank.
Lastly, speak English if you can't speak Spanish.
